According to the doctrines , and traditions of the
Catholic Church, after Jesus one of the twelve disciples called Simon Peter,
one of the hunters from Galilee, whom Jesus appointed as head of the Apostles,
delegating to him the affairs of church administration after him, The word , “Peter ” in Hebrew, means rock or stone
It is the name that Jesus gave it. Peter did not move to Rome
directly, but stayed in Palestine and then in Antioch, and after about thirty
years he moved to Rome establishing his church, and then was crucified in the
year 64 or 67 during the reign of the Roman Emperor Nero
The church was
built in the form of a huge Greek cross, and the strength of the plans and the
durability of the building contributed to its steadfastness for twelve
centuries, until the construction of the cathedral in its present form; It
became one of Rome's major religious monuments. It has also became the traditional place for popes
